In 2005, after Lexy came out, she became passionate about activism and making this world a better/safer place for LGBT youth. She graduated from Washington Community High School in 2007, where she started Washington High’s very first Gay Student Association (GSA), which remains quite a success.

She has served on several boards, including Heartland Safe Schools Initiative (HSSI), Rainbow Youth Outreach (RYO) [Youth Representative], Minority Aids Awareness Council (MAAC), Peoria Pride Steering Committee, and now the Central Illinois Alliance for Diversity & Equality (CIADE). In 2007, She was awarded the ACLU’s Youth Activist Scholarship, attended conferences such as MBLGTACC in 2008, 2009, 2010 and an HIV conference in 2008.

She has spoken at local schools, colleges, universities, community forums, and at Peoria Pride. Consequently, her story has been covered by many of the local newspapers and television networks.
